“We no longer think of chairs as technology; we just think of them as chairs. But there was a time when we hadn't worked out how many legs chairs should have, how tall they should be, and they would often 'crash' when we tried to use them.” - Douglas Adams
In the hire industry, there is a blurred line between corporate event seating and wedding/party seating, as styles are increasingly crossing over. We tend to categorise chairs such as swivel, theatre-style academic, academic with tablets, upholstered stackable and designer stackable as corporate. The ever-popular Eiffel chair by Vitra Eames and the Kartell Masters would be obvious examples.

Chiavari chairs originated in Italy at the beginning of the 19th Century. For over 200 years, these lightweight, elegant chairs have been a staple in ballrooms across the world. Named after the small Italian town, located between Genoa and the Cinque Terre, where the Descalzi brothers opened their workshop, the Chiavarine is often seen in Hollywood movies, at weddings of the rich and famous and in photoshoots by magazines such as Vogue and Elle. Originally built in cherrywood, the Chiavari is now seen in most colours, but particularly popular in gold, silver and white with matching upholstered seat pad in velvet, silk or linen. Designers, inspired by the original, have created new versions which all share the same lightweight, yet solid structure.

RUSTIC /ˈrʌstɪk/ adjective
If your event is outdoors, in the countryside, in a barn, stables, vineyard or distressed building, you may decide to furnish it with rustic style chairs. Bentwood chairs would be an example of the style. There is a bonus to using rustic or vintage furniture, in that you can create an eclectic feel with mismatched seating, at a lower cost than sourcing or hiring full matching sets. Use with simple benches or trestle tables and decorate with foliage, rather than bespoke floral arrangements.
White wooden slat seats, rose gold chairs, silver and black banqueting chairs. Whichever style works for your venue and theme. Browse out product listings in your area. Suppliers can advise on how many chairs per table and m2 required to fit your number of guests. If you are using the same venue for daytime meal and evening dancing, you may want to filter by stackable styles only, to ensure a fast transition to evening layout.

White Chiavari, white bentwood and white metal frame chairs. Most hire suppliers stock 200+ of the same style to ensure enough stock for weddings, graduation ceremonies and garden parties. Some come with optional rigid base seat pads and others lend themselves to fabric tie seat pads.
Folding teak chairs and distressed metal vintage chairs are a great choice for outdoor events. Consider giant bean bags, traditional deck chairs and daybeds if your event has a casual vibe. Be prepared to wipe down all chairs with dry, absorbent cloths 20 minutes before the event to remove moisture from humidity or morning dew.
